Southwest Airlines Reimbursement Policy

There is nothing that can put a damper on a trip like checking your luggage to your destination. When it arrives, it looks different and NOT in a good way! I recently had a cross-country flight to visit family. But when my baggage arrived, there were deep cuts to the top of my hard side spinner bag from Samsonite. Now I am a girlie who is all about saving money, but I DEFINITELY don’t spare quality when it comes to purchasing luggage. Though damaged luggage is unfortunate, being able to be reimbursed for one’s troubles when it happens can be a silver lining. Let me show you how!

Damaged Luggage Must Be Reported Within 4 Hours

First things first, time is of the essence when it comes to reporting that bags have been damaged. Southwest Airlines policy states that customers have FOUR HOURS to report damage.  You have two options when reporting your claim.

Scan the QR code located at the customer service desk at baggage claim.

OR

Report the damage directly to a customer service representative to have the claim started. When I chose the QR code option, I completed my claim before I left the airport. I chose to avoid being distracted with traveling and miss the deadline.

Understand the Baggage Damage Policy Details

A second rule of thumb is Southwest Airlines will not cover damage that is deemed to be from wear and tear, nor bags that are identified as being overstuffed.

How the Luggage Reimbursement Process Works

Thirdly, in the event an agent is able to process the claim at airport same day, they will record baggage information and can send the airline voucher as well. Claim processing takes up to 10 days time, however my compensation was received in two.

Provide Photo Documentation for Airline Reimbursement

Finally, one must be willing to take photos of brand labeling and logos, as it is a factor in the disbursement amount.

Now it is my hope that Lady Luck always covers your luggage in its travels, but definitely be sure to save these tips just in case!

See You In The Skies,
The Luxury Bandit, xoxo
