Dining in an Igloo in Avoriaz: The Ultimate Winter Experience

Hello good readers, The Luxury Bandit here, and I hope you’re staying cool and getting prepped for the incoming summer sunshine. I just LOVE being warm and feeling the sun kiss my skin; it puts me in my happy place. But here’s the twist: one of the coolest (literally) experiences I’ve had this year didn’t involve heat or beaches. In fact, it was quite the opposite; I dined at Igloo Village, inside a real-life igloo!

That’s right. Tucked away in the charming ski resort town of Avoriaz, France, lies the Igloo Village, a hidden gem that offers visitors the chance to wine, dine, and chill (pun intended) in sub-zero luxury. Perched high up and only accessible via ski lift, the resort already has this feeling of exclusivity. It’s like being let in on a secret that only the cool kids know.

What to Expect Inside Igloo Village

As soon as I arrived, I knew this wasn’t just a check-it-off-the-list activity. This was an experience, an atmosphere, a vibe, a story you don’t stop telling.

The ice architecture is stunning. You walk into carved-out rooms filled with glistening furniture made entirely of snow and ice. Colored LED lighting gives it this otherworldly ambiance that feels somewhere between a Bond villain’s lair and a high-end art installation. Blankets and furs are layered across seats, not just for aesthetics but to keep you warm while you savor every second.

The Dinner That Made the Experience Unforgettable

Let’s talk food. If you think dining in an igloo means compromising on cuisine, think again. The set menu offered fresh regional dishes, and for a pescatarian like me, there were more than enough choices that satisfied both my palate and my standards. The dinner I had with my travel group felt intimate, elevated, and rich with laughter. Food just hits differently when you’re bundled up, dining inside an ice dome with new friends from around the globe.

Travel Tips for Your Igloo Adventure

If you’re considering this unique winter experience, a few travel tips:

  • Book early. This isn’t the type of experience you want to miss due to limited availability.
  • Dress warmly but stylishly. This is The Luxury Bandit talking after all; we do cozy chic, not frumpy.
  • Check lift times to ensure smooth transport to and from the resort.

Also, don’t forget to follow Village Igloo on Instagram for updates and booking info. And if you’re someone who enjoys curated travel experiences with like-minded adventurers, Mount Noire is the go-to. They made my journey from the U.S. seamless and special. If you’re traveling solo or looking to join a group trip in Europe, they’re the team to connect with.

Why Village Igloo Belongs on Your Travel List

Whether you’re a seasoned snow bunny or someone just dipping your toe into winter travel, dining in an igloo is one of those once-in-a-lifetime, bucket-list-worthy adventures that brings your storybook fantasies to life. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to say they’ve eaten dinner inside a glittering igloo under the French Alps?

So while the sun may be calling soon, don’t overlook the beauty and boldness of colder escapades. Sometimes, the coolest memories come from the frostiest moments.

All The Best,
The Luxury Bandit
